the “cjantâ vilotis” cd is a collection of traditional ladino pieces that met with the extraordinary participation of antonella ruggiero.  the project was the out-come of the interest antonella ruggiero showed in ladino music in the wider sphere of research within cultural traditions that the artist had been doing for some time now.

in september 2008 an extraordinary concert was held in the auditorium theatre in trento which saw antonella ruggiero interpret some ladino and friulan songs together with destràni taràf  marmar cusine, loris vescovo & caia grimaz accompanied by her “well knowen” musicians, mark harris and ivan ciccarelli and by the artistic director roberto colombo.

testimony of this event is the cd/dvd “cjantâ vilotis” in which we can lsten to pieces like: “canche vael gio veide”, “la biele stele”, “la pastora e il lupo”, “ciant de l’aisciuda”, “a no ‘nd è mai stade ploe”, “lebedik”, “la legna verde” in the unpublished interpretation of antonella ruggiero, who offers these songs respecting the traditional values but enriching them even further by her extraordinary voice.

to mention furthermore, “fior di tomba”, a piece that presents unique analogies with the partisan resistance song “bella ciao” from which the latter derive and “il viaggio (i viac)” a song in antonella ruggiero’s repertoire, here it is offered in an unpublished ladino version.

the pieces present in “cjantâ vilotis” are part of the “raccolta gartner” dating back to the period that goes from 1904 till 1915.

this new lap in antonella ruggiero’s artistic journey is a further example of the artist’s desire to research in the patrimony of the folk and traditional music, for the purpose of letting the public hear small forgotten and unknown treasures. a “challenge accepted with enthusiasm and conviction”, as fabio chioccetti remembers in the presentation of the cd/dvd manager of “istitut cultural ladin”
